Real Estate Local Marketing for SEO

The Google, Bing and Yelp Panel discussing how to improve your local marketing strategy

We had the privilege to visit Seattle last week and attend a local marketing workshop hosted by the largest online SEO community in the world, Moz.com. What was great about the event was how small it making conversations about local marketing with others that much easier, not to mention great music, venue and food! MozCon Local has some of the top experts from Google, Bing and Yelp to discuss how to improve local SEO. If you’re not familiar, Local Marketing is an industry term that is focused on the organic marketing channels that drive traffic from local searches such as New York City Real Estate.

One of the biggest components driving success for local marketing campaigns are with Google My Business (GMB) accounts. Here are some basic tips on improving your local marketing rankings with Google My Business for real estate:

  • Get More 5-Star Reviews!
  • Focus on impressions to measure performance because the “local pack” rotates listings more than search results do there getting more impressions in the local pack is a better metric for success
  • Make sure you’re on the major business listing sites such as Yelp, Yellow Pages, Apple, Bing and of Course Google
  • Make sure you have photos loaded onto your GMB account
  • Ensure consistency with your business name, phone and address on the business directories – this type of duplication is good across business listings aggregates because the signal of consistency with basic business contact details is a signal of accuracy and trust with the search algorithms.

While we were in Seattle we took advantage of being able to connect with our Zillow Rep, Jake (aka Jake from State Farm 🙂

We got an inside view on where the immediate future innovation is headed at Zillow. One of the opportunities that they have created is combining New Home listings into the large home feed in order to give new homes more traffic. Additionally, Zillow is expanding their call center support to respond to inquiries from buyers quicker. Zillow is following up directly with inquiries within the first 10 minutes changing the expectations of buyers! We will be visiting Zillow’s Denver office this summer so check back for more updates!
